Caffeine is the methylxanthine 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine. FDA substance records distinguish Caffeine from salts and solvates such as Caffeine Citrate and Caffeine Monohydrate. COSMILE Europe lists Caffeine as a skin-conditioning ingredient used in products including creams and shampoos.

The INCI does not prove that a grade was extracted from coffee, tea, guarana, or another plant. Confirm assay, source or manufacturing route, hydration state when relevant, supplied form, and supplier specification instead of treating coffee extract and purified Caffeine as equivalent materials.
