EHT Sunscreen Development

Ethylhexyl Triazone (EHT) Sunscreen Formulation and Manufacturing

Develop private label or custom Ethylhexyl Triazone sunscreen around the exact EHT grade, assay, oil-phase solubilization, crystallization control, companion UVA filters, film formation, packaging, finished-product testing, and destination-market requirements. EHT is a highly photostable UVB filter, but its concentration alone does not establish SPF or broad-spectrum compliance.

Ingredient Direction

What Is Ethylhexyl Triazone (EHT)?

Ethylhexyl Triazone, abbreviated EHT, is a synthetic, soluble organic UVB filter. COSMILE Europe describes it as absorbing UVB radiation at approximately 280–320 nm and also lists UV-absorbing and light-stabilizing cosmetic functions. Its role is primarily UVB protection rather than complete UVA coverage.

Uvinul® T 150 is BASF’s trade name for an Ethylhexyl Triazone grade, not a generic synonym for every EHT raw material. Commercial grades should be evaluated through their own assay, impurity profile, physical form, solubility guidance, and regulatory documentation.

Concept Development

Why Brands Consider EHT Sunscreen

EHT is useful when strong UVB contribution, photostability, and cosmetic elegance are major sunscreen brief requirements.

High-Efficiency UVB Direction

Ethylhexyl Triazone has strong UVB absorbance and can make an efficient contribution to the UVB side of a sunscreen system. Finished SPF still depends on the complete filter combination, vehicle, film quality, and test result.

High Photostability

Manufacturer and spectroscopy research support EHT’s strong photostability and rapid non-destructive relaxation after UVB excitation. That makes it useful in systems where sustained UVB performance is a priority.

Low-White-Cast Formulation Direction

As a soluble organic filter, EHT can support transparent or low-white-cast sunscreen concepts. Finished clarity and feel still depend on whether the crystalline filter stays fully dissolved in the oil phase.

Complementary Filter-System Role

EHT mainly addresses UVB, so broad-spectrum sunscreen development normally requires suitable UVA or broad-spectrum companion filters. Each combination must follow the destination market’s permitted-filter rules.

Format Selection

Products You Can Make With EHT

The primary route is sunscreen development, where solubilization, spectral balance, film quality, testing, and target-market regulation must be developed together.

Formulation Notes

What to Confirm Before Sampling

EHT development depends on complete dissolution, recrystallization control, spectral balance, and destination-market compliance.

Confirm the Exact EHT Grade

Review INCI, assay, impurities, physical form, storage, batch COA, and supplier formulation documentation. Keep commercial trade names separate from the generic Ethylhexyl Triazone identity.

Control Solubilization and Recrystallization

EHT is a crystalline oil-soluble filter. Supplier guidance for Uvinul® T 150 calls for oil-phase dissolution with heat, while published formulation research shows that emulsifier and vehicle design can affect recrystallization behavior. Validate the selected grade in the actual formula.

Build the Complete UV-Filter System

EHT does not replace the need for UVA coverage. SPF, UVA-PF, broad-spectrum balance, water resistance, and durability depend on companion filters, vehicle, film formers, distribution, and the tested finished sunscreen.

Separate EU and U.S. Market Rules

The EU permits Ethylhexyl Triazone up to 5%. EHT is not included in the current U.S. OTC Monograph M020 sunscreen active-ingredient list effective August 9, 2026, so a U.S. OTC sunscreen requires a different active-filter pathway.

Technical and regulatory references checked September 11, 2026: COSMILE Europe Ethylhexyl Triazone record, BASF Uvinul® T 150 product record, EU Cosmetics Regulation consolidated May 18, 2026, current U.S. OTC Sunscreen Monograph M020, EHT photoprotection-mechanism study, and UV-filter recrystallization study. These sources do not establish a universal use level, solvent system, filter combination, SPF, UVA-PF, or finished-product performance.
