FDA’s substance record maps Ferulic Acid to the E/trans form, and COSMILE Europe lists antioxidant and antimicrobial cosmetic functions. Ferulic Acid, ferulate salts or esters, and botanical extracts that naturally contain ferulic compounds are not interchangeable ingredients.

Ferulic Acid can support antioxidant and well-aging concepts, but finished-product performance is highly formulation-dependent.
Ferulic Acid is widely studied for oxidative-stress pathways and is recognized as an antioxidant cosmetic ingredient. This supports antioxidant positioning without implying sunscreen activity or guaranteed environmental protection.
A classic human-skin study found that adding Ferulic Acid to a specific L-ascorbic-acid and alpha-tocopherol solution improved vitamin stability and UV-response protection. That evidence belongs to the tested combination formula, not to Ferulic Acid alone.
A 2025 systematic review identified human studies reporting changes in elasticity, texture, erythema, pigmentation, and hydration. Study sizes and formulations varied, so isolated Ferulic Acid efficacy should not be overstated.
Human and combination-formula studies include pigmentation-related outcomes, supporting an even-tone development direction while keeping melasma treatment, laser-adjuvant, and therapeutic claims outside ordinary cosmetic positioning.

Ferulic Acid-containing antioxidant combinations can reduce UV-induced biomarkers in controlled studies, but Ferulic Acid is not being positioned here as a sunscreen active.
