Formulation Notes
Zinc PCA formulation should start with the exact zinc salt and the complete ionic environment of the finished product.
Review INCI, assay, zinc content or basis when specified, moisture, impurities, physical form, storage, and batch COA. Do not compare different commercial Zinc PCA grades by addition percentage alone.
Because Zinc PCA is an ionic zinc salt, evaluate compatibility with chelators, charged polymers, surfactants, electrolytes, other mineral salts, and the preservation system in the actual formula.
An in-vitro human-skin study found zinc delivery differed between Zinc PCA and other zinc salts and vehicles. Vehicle design therefore matters to deposition and exposure, not just the nominal zinc percentage.
In-vitro fibroblast research reported effects on UVA-related MMP-1 and collagen markers, while human studies generally used multi-active products. These findings do not prove anti-aging, antimicrobial, anti-acne, or seborrheic-dermatitis treatment claims for a new Zinc PCA cosmetic.
