Centella Asiatica Extract, also called Gotu Kola Extract, is the cosmetic extract of the whole Centella asiatica plant. It should be kept distinct from Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, isolated Madecassoside or Asiaticoside, and standardized triterpene fractions.

Centella materials can vary substantially with plant source, extraction method, solvent or carrier, and marker composition. Asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid are important triterpenoid markers, but their presence or concentration should be confirmed from the selected supplier specification rather than assumed from the INCI name.
